This past Friday I had the opportunity to check something off my bucket list; attending the Fifa World Cup! Canada is hosting the 2015 Women’s World Cup, and Vancouver B.C. is just a few hours from where I live, so of course I had to get tickets to some of the games! My friends Keith, Lara, Timm, Jenny and I all bought the Vancouver Half Pass ticket, which means we have 3 group round games, 1 knock out round game, and the final on July 5th. Friday was a double header with Switzerland vs Ecuador at 4pm and Japan vs Cameroon at 7pm. I’ll write more on those games tomorrow.
Jenny, Lara and I took the day off work to head up to Canada. After fueling up at Starbucks, we got on the road around 1030am.
We only had about a 30 minute wait at the border and made it to Vancouver by 130pm.
Lara and Jenny were staying the night with their husbands in an apartment near the stadium, so we hung out there for an hour while we waited for said husbands to show up, then walked to the stadium along the waterfront. It was so beautiful!
All the games for the World Cup in Vancouver are being held at BC Place. Despite being the home of one the biggest rivals of my favorite team (the Sounders), it’s actually a lovely place to spend an afternoon.
We very much enjoyed both games, and I took hundreds of pictures of both, which I’ll share with you tomorrow! After they were done, we took the same path back to the apartment, just after sunset.
I really loved this artwork on the pathway!
I ended up leaving as soon as we got back as I had several hours to drive and a 2 hour wait at the border to get home. I finally made it at 2am and collapsed into bed. But we go back on Tuesday to watch the USA take on Nigeria. I’m SO EXCITED for this match!!
