Well, maybe not ‘deep sea’ per se, but it was still some excellent fishin’! During our 4 days at the beach, we only planned 1 day of activities – a fishing/snorkeling/BBQ boat trip! We booked the trip through our hotel (unfortunately I can’t remember the company), and the boat picked us up right on the beach in front of our room. I wish I could commute like this every day.
There’s our little beach, and the building where we’re staying, right in the middle.
Once we were out far enough, we got right down to dropping some lines while we wandered around the coast. I’ve never fished like this before, where they just hand you a line with a hook on the end. No pole, nothing to hold on to but this little plastic thing and the line itself. The crew was very helpful and friendly, and they played us a lot of Trinidad (calypso) music!
Katie and Keith caught several fish almost right away! You have to pull the line in, hand over hand, to bring it in.
It took me much longer, but I finally got one, too!
As we took turns fishing (we only put 2 lines down at a time), I took some pictures of a bunch of pelicans sitting on a boat. They cracked me up how they huddled all together like that.
After fishing for a bit, we jumped off the boat and went snorkeling. It felt so good to get in the water. Unfortunately I don’t have any photos to share of this part since my underwater camera stopped working, but there wasn’t a ton to see anyway. Mostly I just enjoyed being in the water.
When we finished snorkeling, we got back on the boat to head to the south end of the island to BBQ the fish we caught. On the way, we ran into a pod of dolphins! They were having so much fun, playing with the boat. I literally took over 300 pictures. I’ll spare you and only share a few.
Finally we made it to our BBQ spot. We parked the boat, hopped out and splashed around in the water until our food was ready. It was the perfect little picnic area.
Our freshly caught fish was delicious! After awhile, we had to start heading back to drop people off at their hotels. I took a few last photos of the sunset as we went. They really are spectacular here.
