Here we go! It’s my first trip of 2016 and I’m so excited to be hitting the road again!
Iceland has been on my bucket list for ages. I’ve tried a few times to stop over in Reykjavik on my way to other destinations on Iceland Air for free, but it hasn’t worked out. I’m not usually much of a guided tour type person, but right before I left for Tanzania, I got an email about a packaged 4 day, 3 night trip to Iceland including flights and hotel, a trip to the Blue Lagoon and a northern lights boat tour for $679! It was too good to pass up! I talked to my friend Emma and she was in, and we even included an extra day with a couple more add-ons (including shuttle service to and from the airport), so for the low price of $890 (not including the Silfra fissure dive), we’re heading to Iceland in just a few days!
We land at 645am and check in to our hotel, then head out a few hours later to snorkel the Silfra Fissure. How cool is this? You can actually dive between 2 continental plates, the only place you can do this in the world! Fortunately I’m dry-suit certified (Puget Sound is cold, y’all!), so I’m hoping it won’t be too uncomfortable for me.
The second part of the day will be checking out some lava caves. I’m not really sure what to expect here, but it looks cool!
The next day we do our day trip tour of the Golden Circle. We’ll see the Gullfoss waterfall, geysers and Thingvellir National Park.
Hopefully we’ll be back on time from this trip because we have our boat tour to see the northern lights that evening. I really hope we have the chance to see them. No refunds if we don’t!
Day 3 we’ll have a chance to relax a bit and check out Reykjavik during the day. I’m so excited to see it all charmingly covered in snow.
Then we finally get to go to the world-famous Blue Lagoon in the evening. Our trip even includes a facial and a drink. Delightful!
Our last full day in Iceland will be a 10 hour day trip to the South Shore where we’ll stand behind a waterfall, walk on the black sand beaches and learn about Viking history.
After 4 days packed full, we’ll have another half day in Reykjavik before we fly back to Seattle. It’s a short trip but we’re doing so much! Hopefully I’ll have a chance to come back another time, perhaps on that free Iceland Air layover. I’d love to see this country in the summer, and do a tour of the ring road around the entire island.
