2015 has been quite a year! There has been so much that has happened to make this a good one. For the last several years, I’ve kept a list of things that made my year great, partly to help me remember the good things, partly to remind me of all I have to be grateful for. I got this idea from my favorite author, Jen Lancaster. After she had a rough year, she decided to write down everything from that year that made it suck less. Now I want to share these things with you!
One of the first things I did this year was travel to Arizona to see the Seahawks compete in the Super Bowl. It was a huge bucket list item for me, attending a major sporting event like this. They may have lost in heartbreaking fashion, but it was still a wonderful experience.
Shortly after coming home from Arizona, I was asked to fly to Australia for 2 weeks to assist with an audit for work. I’ve wanted to go to Australia for ages, but was always worried about the long and expensive flight. But this was the perfect opportunity! I even got to spend time with my friend Aarron, who I’ve know all my life as our mom’s were friends in college. She was an excellent tour guide, showing me around Sydney, taking me to a rugby game and the Blue Mountains and she even let me crash on her couch for a few nights.
Right around the time I went to Australia, I had to have some work done on my house. The rock retaining wall in my backyard collapsed and my dishwasher died, so I took the opportunity to make some upgrades. It was a bit of a headache, but I love how it all came out.
This was a good year for sports for me. On top of going to the Super Bowl, I also got to go to several Women’s World Cup games, including the final where team USA beat Japan to win their 3rd World Cup Championship. It was so awesome to see all the support for these women. Cool fact – more Americans watched this than the NBA Finals or the Stanley Cup. Yep, these ladies kick ass.
By far the thing I am most proud of this entire year was summiting Mt Kilimanjaro. What started out as a hair-brained idea between my friend Amy and myself turned into a major life accomplishment. We trained and planned for over a year, and it was all worth it when we were staring out over the world from the summit. We also did a safari and spent a week relaxing on the island of Zanzibar. All I can say is that it was one of the best experiences of my life.
After a few quiet months at home, I flew to Dubai with my friend Maggie. I hadn’t seen her since March so it was great to get to catch up with her. We spent a week in the desert seeing everything Dubai had to offer and got to meet up with our friends Nevine and Markus as well. It was a really nice week spent with friends I don’t get to see nearly enough.
The last few things that have made this year rock are:
- Upgrading my blog from Blogspot to this new fancy site and everything I’ve learned about travel blogging in general. I really am enjoying this and hope to continue for as long as possible!
- Beginning to plan my round the world trip for a few years from now (more on that later).
- Going for walks with my dogs. They’ve finally calmed down enough that it’s not a miserable undertaking anymore. It encourages me to get out of the house every day and get some exercise, and the dogs love it even more.
- Finally learning to like yoga. I haven’t always liked yoga, but this year I was able to figure it out. Not only did I learn to like it, I also tried standup paddleboard yoga. It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be, but I left the camera on shore, just in case! Here are a few shots from the beach as the sun was setting. I can’t think of a more beautiful place to do yoga.
2015, you’ve been great. But I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2016!
What are some of your favorite moments of 2015? I’d love to hear about them!
